The Department of Geography at the University of South
Carolina, Columbia, SC seeks an assistant professor for
a tenure track position. Candidates for this position
will be expected to integrate physical and social
aspects of environmental issues. We currently have
four faculty members in physical and environmental
geography conducting work in geomorphology, hydrology, climate
variability and climate impacts, biogeography, and natural and
technological hazards. It is expected that the
candidate for this position would carry a teaching and
advising load for a growing number of students in our
department who are interested in environmental issues and
the interaction between the physical world and human activity.
While specific areas of concentration are open, the department
seeks candidates with interests in the human dimensions of
environmental change or those who can foster links between
physical geography and environmental policy. This can include,
but is not restricted to, candidates with interests in the
interplay between climate and human systems.
The Geography Department has 18 faculty. Collectively our
research and teaching activities represent a broad range of
subfields within geography. The Department has developed a
strong reputation in geographic techniques including cartography,
remote sensing and geographic information systems.
