POSITION: Head of Grants Department
ORGANIZATION: The Regional Environmental Center for Central
and Eastern Europe (REC)
The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe
(REC) is a regional organisation based in Szentendre, Hungary,
with the mission to assist in solving the environmental problems of
Central and Eastern Europe by encouraging cooperation among
non-governmental organisations, governments, businesses and
other environmental stakeholders, by supporting the free exchange
of information and by promoting public participation in
environmental decision-making.
DEPARTMENT: Grants
The REC's Grants and NGO Support Program is a regional leader
in providing grants, capacity building and research to NGOs in
Central and Eastern Europe. The mission of the Grants Program is
to enable tangible environmental improvement in the CEE region by
cost-effectively channeling donor funds to projects with high
environmental impact, through a well-established and competitive
granting system. The REC seeks an enthusiastic environmental
professional to lead and support a dynamic and multicultural team
in implementing a variety of environmental programs.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work to ensure the program's financial sustainability through
extensive proposal preparation and fundraising.
- Propose, create and manage new grants programs that meet the
environmental needs of the region, including raising funds for their
implementation.
- Develop and manage projects and programs that assist in the
development and capacity building of NGOs.
- Manage a non-hierarchical, multicultural and creative team.
- Ensure that internal policies and procedures are followed.
- Represent the Department within the REC; promote the REC and
the program outside the organization.
- Ensure quality control in the department.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS LEVEL REQUIRED
- In-depth knowledge of important environmental issues in the CEE
region.
- Experience with grants-giving, training and public participation.
- Environmental NGO background and/or experience.
- Fundraising experience: established donor contacts in the
environmental field, creative fundraising ideas.
- Project management experience: planning, budgeting, cash flow,
proposal writing.
- Strong management skills: a "people person" and team builder.
- Experience in a multicultural environment, ability to communicate
with diverse cultures and constituents.
- Computer literacy: Windows 95 at minimum.
     - Fluent in English language, other regional languages are a plus.
EDUCATION
University degree in environment or a related field.
The position is based in the Szentendre Headquarters of the REC,
and reports to the Deputy Executive Director.
