Hi! I'm looking to correspond with relatives I may have in Hungary. My
Great-Grand Father on my mother's side is Steve John Szidor Sr. He came
to the United States around the 1930's. Any leads, ideas, or contacts
will be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you very much!
Roy S. Lopez
P.S. Unfortunately, the name was changed to Sedor at Ellis Island! I may
change it back to the original spelling some day! :)

I'd like to thank those who responded to my posting on this list about the
USAID public administration project in support of local government in
Hungary. The project will be starting up this fall. I don't know yet
whether our group will be selected for it, but expect to in a few weeks.

For an assignment, I'm looking for answers to the following questions. I'm
interested in hearing from Hungarian natives or American English speakers who
have lived in Hungary.
What are the possibilities for teaching English in Hungary? Is the demand
Are opportunities primarily in state-run primary and high schools or are
there lots of private language schools as well?
What can an American native English speaker expect to encounter during a year
living and teaching in Hungary? Will he or she be readily accepted by fellow
teachers? students? community leaders?
How will an experience teaching in a small town differ from an experience in
say, Budapest or Debrecen?
Which language is harder to learn, English or Hungarian?
What are the hardest things about English for a Hungarian native speaker?
What is the most desirable city, town or region to live in in Hungary?
What is the least desirable city, town or region to live in Hungary?
Is access to the internet readily available in high schools? primary schools?

Oh good! Now I know Gabor was just lurking around waiting for the
moment to jump on me. Not nice from a fellow member of the Koper Swim
Club! On the other hand, he is full of it! -- I mean good ideas.
Too bad I can't paint my house while doing the things he suggested..
