RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT FINANCE THE CONSTRUCTION
OF MOCHOVICE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IN SLOVAKIA
MOSCOW, JULY 2 (EDI), - The Russian government passed a proposal for
financial aid to the Slovak government for the construction of
Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant in Slovakia. According to the agreement,
Russia will spend US $ 80 million for the first phase of construction
(2 VVER-type reactors, 440 MW each). This proposed aid program is ba-
sed on the agreement of November 27, 1980 between USSR and Czechoslo-
vakia, "On Cooperation Between the Governments of the USSR and Czec-
hoslovakia on Construction of the Nuclear Power Plant, Mochovce ."
The current proposal offers Slovakia US $50 million in cash credit and
an additional US $30 in services for construction of the above-mentio-
ned facility .
Also according to this agreement, the government of Slovakia gua-
rantees that they will purchase nuclear fuel need for this plant and
other Slovakian nuclear power plants from the Russian Federation for
as long as these plants continue to operate.
The proposal is pending approval of the Slovak government, as is,
or with non-substantial changes or additions. The
Ministries of Foreign Economic Relations, Atomic Energy and Finances
of the Russian Federation will hold negotiations with their Slovak co-
unterparts.
