A friend of mine is going to travel in Central Europe in a few weeks and
wants to trace back her relatives. He knows that his grandfather was
born in a town/village formerly called Zanneg. This name has changed
over the past decades, but supposedly was used in the 20s or so. He
knows that it was in Austria-Hungary, but that's about it.

Does someone know by any chance where this town/village is? PLease send
email to

Thanks,

Zoltan

Hi Mark, Hungarian Pronunciation Tutor, but alas, it is for Macintosh
only. If you find something for ibm, please let me know. Best,
.

My native language is American english but
I have studied hungarian so I thought I
might make some suggestions.

First Ba'tor meaning brave
(pronounced BAH-tor, a as in father but long)
the ' in ba'tor is a clumsy way of showing that the a carries
an accent mark in its proper orthography. The accent mark
indicates a lengthening of the sound, not accent as the accent
is always on the first sylable in hungarian

Also good would be Balaton, the name of the major lake in
Hungary

Or even Duna, the hungarian name for the Danube
(u pronounced as oo in moon)
