>APPOINTMENT AND RESPONSIBILITIES
>
>CSU Monterey Bay seeks two individuals with transdisciplinary skills in
>ecological and natural resource economics to fill a position in the
>Institute for Earth Systems Science and Policy (ESSP). The ESSP program
>emphasizes a rigorous, transdisciplinary systems approach that links the
>basic earth systems sciences ( e.g. biology, chemistry, ecology,
>engineering, geology, physics, hydrology, atmospheric science) and science
>tools (e.g. mathematics, statistics, modeling, spatial
>analysis/visualization) to one another and to the social, economic and
>political components of the earth system. In addition to an
>interdisciplinary focus, ESSP emphasizes the use of technology and
>multimedia applications to earth systems science and policy education to
>develop workable solutions to complex environmental problems.
>
>The candidate will be responsible for designing curricula and teaching
>undergraduate courses in Applied Ecological Economics, Environmental
>Policy, Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, Systems Modeling,
>Adaptive Systems Management. Candidates must have a demonstrated
>achievement in teaching, research, and technological expertise.
>Candidates will be expected to develop an externally-supported research
>program compatible with the focus on integrative, interdisciplinary
>management of natural resources, and a systems approach to the analysis of
>economic and ecological systems. The successful candidate will be expected
>to develop innovative ways of linking economics and policy within the ESSP
>curriculum, develop undergraduate and graduate course curricula, and
>support planning and development of the Institute's graduate programs.
>This individual will also conduct collaborative research with faculty of
>the Institute for Earth Systems Science and Policy and other university
>Institutes and contribute to the University's expertise in the application
>of natural resource economics, ecological modeling, and environmental
>policy. For one position, we will be hiring at the Assistant or Associate
>level. The second position will be a Multi-year Lecturer appointment.

>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

>A Ph. D. or the equivalent is required.

>ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
>
>We are seeking applicants with a record of exceptional achievement in
>teaching and research.
>The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise and skill in
>conducting economic analysis as the basis for the development of
>environmental policy, experience in implementing and analyzing
>environmental policy, environmental impact analysis, cost-benefit
>analysis, multiple objective analysis, input-output models, and Stella
>modeling. Experience in ecosystem valuation and management, risk
>assessment and the use of UNIX and geographic information systems
>considered an asset. Successful candidates will be sensitive to, and
>demonstrate interest in teaching students with nontraditional or
>ethnically diverse backgrounds. It is also highly desirable that
>candidates have proficiency in a second language and experience in
>bilingual or multicultural contexts; experience in innovative education;
>technological expertise; and experience in multicultural, cross-cultural,
>or global programs and projects.
