THE PROJECT ON ENVIRONMENT, POPULATION AND SECURITY

     DOCUMENT DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM AND DISCUSSION FORUM


     The Project on Environment, Population and Security presents two new
     Internet-based resources in the field of environment and security.
     The Document Distribution System and the Discussion Forum provide
     analysts, scholars and policymakers with the opportunity to receive
     policy relevant, scholarly analyses of the impact of renewable
     resource scarcity, population growth, and migration on civil and
     regional violence and to enter into a discussion of these issues with
     colleagues across the country and around the world.

     PROJECT OVERVIEW

     The Project, under the direction of Professor Thomas Homer-Dixon, will
     gather, evaluate, integrate and disseminate existing data on causal
     linkages among population growth, renewable resource scarcities,
     migration and violent conflict.  The project will gather as much
     evidence about such linkages as possible, examine and compare the best
     material to see if common patterns of causation exist across
     societies, economic regions, and time; and provide accessible
     summaries of these findings to policymakers.  In this effort, it will
     be guided by three key questions:

     What is known about the links among population growth, renewable
     resource scarcities, migration and violent conflict?

     What can be known about these links?

     What are the critical methodological issues affecting research on
     these links?

     The initial purpose of the electronic document distribution system is
     to disseminate documents and announcements produced by the Project.
     The system will also post documents and announcements produced by
     other projects examining issues related to environment and security.

     effort of the Peace and Conflict Studies Program of the University of
     Toronto, the Program on Science and International Security of the
     American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington and
     the Canadian Centre for Global Security in Ottawa.  It is funded by

ETHNOSES AND NATURE: 
LANGUAGE-CULTURE-ECOLOGY 
AN INVITATION FOR COOPERATION 
Individuals working in the fields of science and culture and all others who
reali- 
ze the NEED TO SAVE THE QUALITY AND DIVERSITY OF HUMANITY'S  
NATURAL & CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT are invited to take part in the fo- 
rums entitled "ETHNOSES AND NATURE" (ETNA) with the aim of combining  
the scientific analysis of links between ethnicity and nature with the fields
of art  
and education 
 
The first Forum, ETNAi95, will reflect the relationships between European eth- 
nic groups and the natural environment of the temperate belt. This first forum 

will take place in the High Tatra Mountains of Slovakia June 24 - July 4, 1995 

The second Forum, ETNA'97, will analyze these relationships in the tropics and 

subtropics of Australia and Oceania. The third Forum, ETNA'99, will be devoted 

to the equatorial belt in South America. The result of these forums will be a
se- 
ries of publications on the relationships between ethnic groups and nature in
the  
different climate/nature zones of the world. 
 
With the help of collaborators the project aims to inventorise and widely
distri- 
bute information on the existence of harmonious ethno-natural relationships.
The  
International School of Ecological Living is being established for this
purpose.  
The school will study and dis-seminate the experience of European ethnic groups
 
as to be discussed in the first Forum. This will be a contribution to the EURO-

PEAN NATURE CONSERVATION YEAR 1995.  
 
Russia, which has the largest territory characterized by permafrost in the
world,  
will be the location for the Subarctic or/and Euro-Asiatic Forum. The Moscow  
Center "Language-Culture-Ecology of the Academy of New Thinking (ANM)  
coordinates the entire project and its methodological seminars ETNA. One of the
 
main task is Basing of the Forum series ETNA on the concept of the "ETNIC- 
NATURAL REGIONS OF THE EARTH. Long-distance participation is possible  
through correspondence. 
 
The information and organizing network of the world Esperanto-movement was  
one of the assumptions in success of the Project "Language-Culture-Ecology"  
including the ETNA Forums. We hope for active collaboration in this project. 
 
Everyone can be a VOLONTEER OF THE INTERNATIONAL ETNA COM- 
MITTEES and select a task. In the event of success, they will be mutually hel- 
ped, and their contribution acknowledged in the Forum books.

korzet, amely csak elozetes engedellyel es kiserovel latogathato. 

> - Kis-Balaton Vizvedelmi Rendszer, mit jelent ez?

A Zala nem csak az egyik legfontosabb vizforrasa a tonak, hanem az egyik
legnagyobb szennyezo is - elegendo csak arra gondolni, hogy Zalaegerszegen
- kb. 65-70000 lakos - is atfolyik. A vizvedelmi rendszer a Zala altal
szallitott szennyezoanyagokat fogja kiszurni - majd, ha kesz lesz.
Egyelore csak felkesznek lehet mondani, bar allitolag mar most is
kimutathato pozitiv hatasa.

Ez az egykori nadas a to partjan, amit az
uduloepitkezesek soran betonnal "helyettesitettek".

evtizedek mulva varhato spontan javulas. A koltsegekrol persze jobb nem 
beszelni.
