I have to agree. Hungary, while it had one of the most stable
goverments in the region, has very little to offer
to NATO. Yeah, we do have airspace.

They could if they wanted to.

Good point. I think the right powers will do their best to
avoid another Ayatollah fiasco.

I wouldn't look at it so pointedly. First of all, Hungary and the
larger part of Romania are not the Balkans. Second, I don't think
we are a dangerous mix. Let alone the most dangerous mix. After all, Hungarian
ambition and Romanian paranoia coexisted for centuries. -):

The Baltic Reps would put NATO in a jam, should they ever need to
defend them.

Seems to me, there is not much to gain by the membership. On either
side.

American Premiere!
With Franco Nero & Gabor Koltai in Person
THE CONQUEST (HONFOGLALAS)
Sat, Mar 8, 6:00

896 AD, and here come the Magyars! as chieftain Arpad leads his seven
tribes into the Carpathian basin from the steppes. The most ambitious and
successful of the many works commemorating the 1100th anniversary of the
"Birth of Hungary", this is a sweeping, epic production, with thousands of
extras filmed on the sites of the actual events in a throwback to the
grand tradition of the Eastern European superspectacle. While Italian,
his lusty performance has elevated Franco Nero to honorary Hungarian
status; and its screenplay attains a rare authenticity-written by that
rarest of combinations, a revered historian and a film executive. With
legendary ballet dancer Viktor Fulop as the Shaman.

Directed by Gabor Koltai. Written by Istvan Nemeskurthy. With: Nero,
Fulop. Hungary, 1996, color, 107 minutes, Hungarian with titles.

Shown at: American Film Institute Theater, John F. Kennedy Center

Price: $6.50 (general public)
$5.50 (AFI members, students under 18 & senior citizens)

Box office information: located in the Hall of States at the Kennedy
Center, open 5PM - 9PM on weekdays, 1PM - 9PM on weekends

I wonder if it's pure coincidence that the three NATO candidates
mentioned most often as being invited in the first round of accession
are those countries that demonstarted active resistance against their
former Communist regimes.

Poland, of course, was in the forefront of it during most of her
post-war history and her 1956 Posnan events served as the catalyst
for igniting the Hungarian Uprising of the same year.
Then there was the 1968 Prague Spring, of course. None of the other
former East Bloc countries can show up any such events as these.

Do you think these events are paramount in the minds of Western leaders
in leaning toward these three countries or those events are just the
byproduct of the Western orientation of those countries and it's that
orientation that is appreciated by those Western leaders?

I think this is getting personal, Pista, and nobody was chastising you
personally about these things, as I have no idea about your family situation.
Besides, what does your above statement have anything to do with the
original subject? You have no idea what effect my 56-er brother had
on my life, just as I have no idea how what I said in general applies
to you personally and that it would send you on a guilt trip.
So let's keep these things in mind, OK?

Let me offer a compromise:
The Chinese are busy making a 40 ft statue of Deng. If Wally wants to piss on
the statue, that would be cheerable.

+ - INTERNET USAGE SURVEY (mind) VÁLASZ  Feladó: (cikkei)

Hello,

Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Arun Muthuswami.
I am currently updating my Internet Usage Survey results which
were borne out of a project in a course I did at McGill University.

This survey is mainly to target at what time you access the Net, and
for what reasons. It is a very simple easy to understand quick
survey. I have put the questions on the Web for everyone's convenience.
I would appreciate it if you can spend a few moments of your precious time
to fill out this survey at:

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/3293

Once your there, just click on the "Survey" or "Internet Usage Survey"
buttons'. Please be aware this is a personal site, GeoCities was the only
place where I could host the survey for free. If you feel that the access
time is slow, you may go directly to the Survey home page at:

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/3293/page6.html

I would also appreciate it if you can bookmark this site, and spread the
word to as many people as you can. Please put a link on your home page to
mine.
I am dependant on several amounts of feedback.

Thank you for your understanding.

PS: As something in return, I have links on the Survey page to good HTML
sites.
I have also included a very simple 3-step process to finding a home on the
web.
Also, please don't forget to sign my guestbook eh? :-)
