FBI TO OPEN OFFICE IN BUDAPEST. The U.S. Federal Bureau of
Investigation will open its first office abroad in Budapest
next month, FBI and Hungarian police officials announced on
22 February. The permanent office will be staffed with both
FBI and Hungarian police and will focus on combating Russian
and other East European mafia groups operating in Budapest.
FBI agents will not be empowered to conduct their own
investigations, nor will they be allowed to detain or arrest
individuals, according to a Hungarian police official. MSZ
