Email mailboxes to increase to 1.2 billion worldwide by 2005! December 27,
2001 Posted: 9:17 a.m. EDT (1317 GMT) (IDG) -- Email usage is on the rise.
According to IDC, the number of worldwide email mailboxes is expected to increa
at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 138 percent, from 505 million in 200
to 1.2 billion in 2005.
The global market intelligence and advisory firm holds three factors respon
this increase: Web services, wireless access, and workers without email. Despit
shakeout among free Web email providers, IDC believes the remaining leaders wil
see significant growth in mailboxes tied to Web sites. "Wireless access through
devices and network services will offer new ways for email users to remain
connected longer while on the move," said Mark Levitt, research director for ID
Collaborative Computing program. "Workers such as deskless and mobile workers
whose access to email has not come easy will benefit from customized email
software, devices, and hosted services."
According to IDC, the number of person-to-person emails sent on an average d
is expected to exceed 36 billion worldwide in 2005. The growing effect of the W
on email is evident in widening usage of Web browsers as the primary method for
accessing email - expected to surpass 50 percent for all email mailboxes worldw
in 2003. This major increase in the use of internet email is one of the many re
why web entrepreneurs like Alfonzo Stevens are taking advantage of the medium t
sell services such as bulk emailing and the selling of bulk email lists.
As Stevens points out, "Bulk emailing is the lowest priced method for advert
available anywhere!" "There is just no cheaper way to advertise your business
anywhere on the planet", says Stevens. Stevens runs an online bulk emailing ser
where he sells email lists and will mail for small to medium sized businesses.
