Man, I thought this whole post was hilarious when it first started. What 
a great parody of boring 19th century writings, and then it got 
horrible. But now, some clown decides to talk about biblical prophecy, 
and U2, at the same time. I have a question, how much does a person have

While agreeing with you about the needed focus I have to say that the idea 
that *border revisions just aren't going to happen* is somewhat naive. The 
possibilities are there. In this century alone Transylvania changed hands 
more than once. Who is to say that the various developments in former 
Yugoslavia will not happen in other nearby territories? It only needed a 
slimeball like Milosevic to make it all possible (all the other cronies

to appear....) Just look at the problems in Kosovo (and the rest of former 
Yugoslavia), Belarus, between Greece and Turkey, Romania's eastern borders,

etc. So far these conflicts have been disparate, but with an alliance here 
or there and a little more instability, the coming disintegration of the EU, 
etc, etc, I can easily envisage a similar conflict sucking in surrounding 
states and snowballing out of all control. Sorry to seem so pessimistic, 
but stating that changes will not occur is wishful thinking. Don't forget: 
the only *permanent* thing is *change*!

I think that the current operative mode is *had*. Every society, even
stable democratic ones have their scoundrels, their philosophical
hucksters with charisma and/or resources that charm people but offer
no constructive road for the country to travel on.

In the US, you might mention Perot, George Wallace, and Huey Long as 
people in that tradition and you wouldn't have even covered a fraction
of the US' scoundrels. The key is not whether these people exist or 
whether they can gain temporary momentum. The real indication is if
they can sustain this power over an election cycle or two. Can they 
take hold of the national or state government? In Romania, thankfully,
such charlatans are declining in popularity, the madness that brought
them to the minor prominence that they enjoyed is fading away. And in 
the end, there wasn't too much harm done. The job of making demagogues
like CVT and Funar real marginal figures with no power whatsoever has
not been completed but I feel that it soon shall be. If we can get past
these Romanian extremists hopefully Hungarians can do the same and we 
will move towards a permanent ethnic peace between our two peoples.

If a reduction of 90% readership, with less than 0,02 % of the electorate
continuing to read the thing, is not a good sign then I don't know what
ever could be.

The paper has lost so many readers that it is not economically viable.
That is not a cause for blame seeking but one for rejoicing! So why
hasn't the thing folded, is the logical question. You get an explanation
and you immediately go off the deep end about supposed Romanian traits of
not taking responsibility for events. Everything seems to be just 
another excuse to dump on us. Why is that?

This is interesting. The original contention was that neo-fascism and 
ethnic hatred are on the rise because Romania Mare has so many readers.
When you are confronted with the facts that it is little more than a 
continuing ethnic provocation subsidized by Romanian Intelligence to help
keep Ion Iliescu in power, you keep on asserting this idea that 
neo-fascism is on the rise without presenting any other evidence to 
replace the evidence that has been clearly discredited. 

This is not to say that Iliescu is a neo-fascist. He is much more likely
engaged in that old communist game of playing both sides against the 
middle. He encourages and subsidizes Romanian nationalist crazies in order
to scare hungarian ethnics to turn to him as the only person who can 
really hold back these loony toons. I've also seen evidence that he 
supports some of the loonier of hungarians so that he can appeal to 
Romanian nationalists as the only person to save them from the loony 
hungarians. And so it goes on...

As for what is the Romanian intelligentsia doing? Most of them are trying
their hardest to get Iliescu out. That would calm down at least 50% of the
equation and possibly a lot more. Care to join in?

indok sem hozhato fel, ugyanis 1995-ben - a vizsgalodas idoszaka -
vegig a jelenlegi kormany uralkodott. Elkepzelheto, hogy jovore tovabb
romlik Magyarorszag megitelese es a "reszben szabad" orszagok ket
